Lockheed KC-130F Hercules

Delivery Date: Sep-1962?


On May 18th 1969, aircraft 814 had a mid-air collision with a F4 Phantom, all 6 crewmembers lost.

Maj. Jimmy Dwayne Sells - Pilot

Maj. John Clarence Williamson - Pilot

MGySgt. Carroll Franklin Hersey - First Mechanic

MSgt. Edmond Chester Polenski - Flight Engineer

Was the crew of 814 awarded single missions or DFC's posthumosly?

I am not aware of any medal awarded for this mission, but I am in contact with MSgt. Polenski's daughter and there's a slim chance she would know.

48 years ago today I checked out of Futema and left a set of wooden rosary beads for Bob Bonebright on his bunk.....he was in country out on flight so I never knew if he got them....cubemates

A girlfriend in the states had given them too me...I'm not catholic...but they worked for me...back in one piece

Remember this well. I was stationed in Futema then and remember when this plane went down. wrote to my wife  telling her about it and she still has the letters.
